Chapter 1
The Challenge

Gene Morton is an organization development consultant, trainer and author who specializes in the design and development of leadership systems for profit, governmental and not-for-profit organizations. Developing enduring and life sustaining organizations is his passion. Ever searching for new insights into what makes organizations effective, Gene enjoys sharing and learning through his speaking, consulting and writing. He is fascinated by how leaders can manage, managers can lead and what makes all of us perform at our best, alone and together.

With an MA in Industrial Psychology, plus years of intensive professional development in group dynamics and organization behavior, Gene brings a pragmatic compassion to the study and coaching of organization leaders.

During more than 25 years of consulting to merger, leadership renewal and system redesign projects, he has gained a deep appreciation for the ways leadership, culture and operational assumptions can block, as well as inspire, excellence.

His articles have been published in a variety of professional journals, including Practicing OD and Training and Development Journal, plus Nursing Administrator and Non-Profit World.
